When we think of the world’s most expensive Super Yachts, thoughts of Russian Oligarchs, Dubai Sheikhs or premier league club billionaire owners spring to mind. As the European population worries about the debt crisis we hear that the Super Yacht (let alone the Mega Yacht) business is booming, with sales up by a third year on year. So what are the biggest and most expensive Super Yachts around? Owners from the Old financial world don’t even appear in the list of top 5 most expensive super yachts in the world. So rule out Paul Allen and Elena Ambrosiadou’s Maltese Falcon – and think about 21st Century Billionaires from the Middle East and Russia.

The 5 most expensive super yachts in the world

1). Eclipse yacht

  • Price: $485 million
  • Owner: Roman Abramovich, Russia

Aptly named, The Eclipse overshadows all other Yachts both in size and in price. Owned by the ubiquitous Roman Abromovich, whose riches means he is on all these such lists, the Eclipse is the most expensive private yacht on charter with fees of $2million for a week’s usage. How long is the most expensive yacht in the World? The answer is a huge 558 feet – almost twice the length of a professional football pitch. Equipped with the full array of boy’s toys plus and entertainment rooms including a cinema, swimming pool and even a private garden this “bombproof” Mega yacht has, as you would imagine, everything.

2). ‘A’ Superyacht

  • Price: $323 million
  • Owner: Andrey Melnichenko, Russia

“‘A’ Superyacht” is the best they could come up with as a name for the second most expensive privately owned yacht in the world. Owned by another Russian billionaire, Andrey Melnichenko this behemoth of a yacht is 390 feet in total length which is longer than the length of the Wembley playing surface. Named after his wife (or rather the first letter of her name), Aleksandra, the “A” is equipped with lifts and an iceberg breaking hull. Though we can probably be assured that most relaxing on this will be in the warmer waters of the Mediterranean with St Tropez or Monaco just a short helicopter ride away.

3). Platinum 525

  • Price: $300 million+
  • Owner: Sheikh Mohammed bin-Rashid Al Makhtoum, Dubai

Originally built to be the largest super Yacht around, but then usurped by the Eclipse, this grand vessel is owned by Manchester City boss Sheikh Mohammed bin-Rashid Al Makhtoum. The mammoth boat is a whopping 525 feet in length and boasts everything you could imagine on such a transporter and more. There is the usual swimming pool and health spa plus quite an old school squash court. The 4 diesel engines push it along at a Jeremy Clarkson jaw dropping 9000 HP, which means if you were sun bathing on the St Tropez beaches, you’d soon know when it cruises past – as you’d be soaked.

4). Pelorus Yacht

  • Price: $300 million
  • Owner: Roman Abramovich, Russia

Super Yachts to billionaires can be a bit like collecting football programmes to us financial mortals. Here is another Roman Abromovich vessel, and this one, despite the meagre 377 feet is apparently the Oligarch’s favourite. German built, the vessel speeds at 20 knots but is best suited for a cruise speed of 16 knots over a distance of 6000 nautical miles and can comfortably house up to 18 VIP guests and 40 permanent crew members.

5). Dilbari Yacht

  • Price: $256 million
  • Owner: Alisher Usmanov, Russia

We’ve had Chelsea and Manchester City and in fifth place is the Arsenal majority owner, Russian business magnate Alisher Usmanov. The Dilbari is frequently used by the man to visit his private islands. Another Tim Heywood design and created again in Germany this huge yacht which is kept relatively private to the outside world, is fully equipped with the mandatory helipad and swimming pool.

We would love to offer an asset loan against a super yacht. If you would like to find out how you could secure a loan against your yacht then please get in touch. In the meantime for everyone else, enjoy the dreams of owning such beautiful iconic symbols of 21st Century billionaire life.
