When you have the children home for six weeks it can get quite desperate knowing how to entertain them.
Beach
All children like the beach. Whether you can go for a short break away somewhere or just on a day trip there is so much to do on the coast. Most beaches are aimed at families so even if they get bored of being in the sea, making sandcastles and fishing in rock pools, there are still the amusement arcades, fin fairs and shops to keep them entertained.
Park
If you have a local park, then there is lots for children to do there. The great thing about a park is that you can take a football and just leave them to play. It can give you time to catch up with some work or some reading. Taking a picnic can turn it in to a day out and children often stay entertained for hours with just a swing and slide.
Library
The library is a great place for children. They no longer expect everyone to stay silent and behave really well, especially in the children’s area. Sometimes there are summer activity sessions in the library and you can always pick some books and read to them. Children love to spend ages searching for books that you can read to them and that they can read to you.
Museums
Museums these days are far from the stuffy places we used to go as children. Most museums now have worksheets for children to complete as they look round which keeps them interested and entertained. They often have something for children to play with in each room so that they can learn about the themes in a fun way.
Holiday Clubs
There are many summer camp clubs these days. It can be great way to not only keep the children entertained but to let them make new friends as well. They will learn something new too and be out from under your feet for a while.
